SENIOR TAX CREDIT TASK FORCE
On Monday, January 7, 2008, the Howard County Council revived the Senior Tax Credit Task Force. See Council Resolution 144-2007. The task force will continue its study of the senior property tax credit. A final report to the County Council is due by November 14, 2008.
In October 2006, the County Council passed CB68-2006, which created a credit against the County property tax for certain seniors. Although CB 68 passed unanimously, several Council members expressed concerns about the Bill's fiscal impact on the County. In January 2007, the County Council enacted ENRCR145-2006, which created a Task Force to study the credit. In February 2007 the Task Force issued an interim report with a number of recommendations. The recommendations of the Task Force led to ENRCB10-2007, which was amended and enacted in April 2007.
