WATER/SEWER CONNECTION

The Department of Planning and Zoning, Development Engineering Division, is responsible for review and approval of water and sewer connections to the public utility to assure there are no conflicts with any regulations pertaining to recorded easements, wetlands, or floodplains.

WHEN APPROVAL IS REQUIRED

The Development Engineering Division is a signatory of the permit process for:

  • All new construction when a building permit is required and public water and sewer is available to serve the property.
  • All new connections of existing structures to the public water and sewer system.

WHAT TO EXPECT

A building permit application received by the Department of Inspections, Licenses and Permits is automatically sent to the Development Engineering Division for their review and approval prior to issuance of the building permit.

After issuance of the building permit, water and sewer construction may be installed. However, all work of this type must be done by a licensed plumber or utility contractor, and a separate plumbing permit is required for the connection to the structure.

EXPEDITING THE APPROVAL PROCESS

The Development Engineering Division requires specific information to be shown on the plan and noted on the permit, such as:

  • Easements, wetlands and floodplains, if any
  • Tax map, block and parcel number
  • Completion of a Water and Sewer Information Sheet
