Storm Water Management Ponds Division

The Storm Water Management Ponds Division operates out of the Dayton Shop. We are responsible County maintenance of over 700 SWM facilities. Routine maintenance includes annual mowing of the dam embankment, annual litter pickup and periodic inspection. Non-routine maintenance includes dam/pipe repairs and sediment removal.

Long grass, shrubs and other vegetation is integral in helping clean the storm water runoff from lawn fertilizers and various other pollutants before reaching the SWM facility and mowing is held to a minimum to insure a safe, low-maintenance dam embankment. Other areas of the SWM facility are left to revert to their natural state as much as possible.

Maintenance responsibilities are shared on most SWM ponds. Most common on new facilities is Homeowner Association maintenance for routine mowing and litter pick-up with County maintenance of non-routine items typically requiring heavy equipment.
