The public system consists of fixed route bus service in and around Howard County and HT Ride provides curb-to-curb transportation service to individuals who cannot access the fixed route bus system due to disability or who are age 60 or over.

Provides local and regional transit information as well as carpool and vanpool matching services to residents and businesses in Howard County.

Provides transit that links areas of high unemployment in Baltimore City to employment sites in Howard County, where employers have difficulty attracting a labor force to fill entry-level jobs.

Agency Coordination
Howard County coordinates transportation planning efforts with the Baltimore Metropolitan Council (BMC) and the State Highway Administration (SHA). The Baltimore Regional Transportation Plan, Transportation Outlook 2030, was approved by the Regional Transportation Board in December 2004. The plan includes a Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP) that identifies specific transportation projects in the region over a five year period.

County Traffic Count Data | Database | Maps
Identify trends and needed improvements to the county road system. These data are subject to sampling and seasonal variations that reflect fluctuations in normal traffic flow. They are not intended and should not be used to substitute for the collection of traffic counts required as part of the county's development review process.

BRTP: Transportation Outlook 2035: A federally mandated long-range transportation plan for the Baltimore region. It serves as a multi-modal blueprint for the Baltimore area by identifying the ways the region plans to invest Federal and State funds in the transportation system over the next few decades. There are opportunities for public participation in the decisions that effect the region.

Initiatives and Studies
Baltimore Regional Rail System Plan: The final Report, prepared by the Maryland Transit Administration, recommends a rail system over the next 40 years which includes a rail line into Howard County and Columbia.

Red Line Corridor Study: The proposed Red Line, the first step toward the Regional Rail System Plan, is a 12 mile, east-west transit corridor connecting the areas of Woodlawn (the location nearest Howard County), West Baltimore, downtown Baltimore, Canton and the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center Campus. The current schedule anticipates completion by 2016.

Howard County is undertaking a comprehensive assessment of its local bus service, Howard Transit, with the objective of developing recommendations for service expansions and capital improvements.
