WHAT IS PREVENTION?

Addictions Prevention Services works with the community to help determine its needs and provide technical assistance for the development and implementation of prevention programs.

The goal is to prevent, reduce and delay underage drinking and the abuse of drugs and alcohol by encouraging the creation of conditions that promote healthy alternatives.

We also offer guidelines to share what we know about stopping casual or experimental drug and alcohol use before it becomes a problem.

The Prevention Department provides Howard County residents and agencies with print materials, workshops, public speakers, research, consultations and expert advice about risk factors, underage drinking, trends in drug use and school-based interventions.

Prevention focuses on both the individual and the environment and supports local advocacy groups including HCDrugFree.
