Women's Hall of Fame Ceremony County Executive Ken Ulman and the Howard County Commission for Women will host the 14th annual Women’s Hall of Fame Ceremony. This year the Commission has selected five outstanding Howard County residents for induction into the Women’s Hall of Fame. Admission is free and the event is open to the public. Howard County Library Spelling Bee County Executive Ken Ulman will join champions and top spellers from 52 public schools, ten private schools and one home school association as the students compete in Howard County’s sixth annual spelling bee final. County Executive Ulman’s 2nd FY11 Citizens’ Budget Hearing Beginning March 3, 2010, citizens will be able to sign-up ON LINE to speak at the hearing by going to the County’s website, www.howardcountymd.gov and clicking on the Budget Testimony link provided near the top right corner of the homepage. From that same link, citizens will also have the option to provide on-line budget testimony; however, citizens are reminded internet testimony is considered public information and, as such, is subject to the Freedom of Information Act. Citizens who do not wish to sign-up on line, will still be able to sign-up in person on the night of the public hearing beginning at 6:30 p.m. Speakers must sign up individually, and one person may not sign up for several testifiers. 8th Annual Children’s Discovery Fair In honor of April being Howard County’s Month of the Young Child, residents are encouraged to stop by and check out the 8th Annual Children’s Discovery Fair, a celebration for young children ages 3 to 5 years of age and their families. Sponsored by Howard County’s Office of Children’s Services, Howard County Early Childhood and Child Care Coalition, Howard County Library and Maryland Family Magazine, this year’s theme is “My Feelings, My Friends, My Family.” The Fair will feature for free hand-on activities relating to school readiness including interactive games, songs, crafts and stories. The Great Snipe Hunt Parents and kids, come gather round the campfire to feast on s'mores and make a craft while preparing for the Great Snipe Hunt. Take a wagon ride and hear a story about the infamous, hard-to-catch "Howard County Snipe," the largest of the snipe species. Then venture into the woods in search of this elusive creature. Bring a large brown paper bag and flashlight for this catch-and-release event. Sponosored in part by the Elkridge Adult Athletic Association.
