Howard Transit Proposed Service Enhancements

ELLICOTT CITY, MD – The Public Transportation Board (PTB) will hold its regular meeting on September 25, 2007, at 7 p.m. in the Tyson Room of the George Howard Building, 3430 Courthouse Drive in Ellicott City. This meeting will serve as an opportunity for the public to give testimony regarding proposed service enhancements to Howard Transit’s Gold and Purple routes.

“I want to encourage our Howard Transit customers to come out and tell us what they think about these proposed service changes,” said County Executive Ken Ulman. “As I said at my public forum in July, it is important that we hear from our customers and then do all we can to improve our service and try our best to meet their transportation needs. This public meeting gives them a chance to let us know if these service enhancements will meet those needs before they are implemented.”

Enhancements to the Gold Route include service throughout the day and an extension of service into the new Gateway retail center and nearby employment and service related locations. The Purple Route will be expanded to include Saturday service between Laurel and Elkridge.

“The enhancements are in response to requests and suggestions we have received from our riders,” said Carl Balser, Chief of Transportation Planning. “All day service on the Gold Route comes at a pivotal time as many of the stores at Gateway Overlook are opening for business, and our Purple Route customers along Route 1 have long requested Saturday service.”

Details on the proposed enhancements are available on the Howard Transit website at www.howardtransit.com or by calling Customer Service at 1-800-270-9553. Those who prefer to submit written testimony may do so prior to the September 25 meeting to Corridor Transportation Corporation, 312 Marshall Avenue, Suite 104, Laurel, MD 20707 or by e-mail to: support@baltwashchamber.org.
