Howard County Commission for Women Seeking Hall of Fame Nominations

ELLICOTT CITY, MD – The Howard County Commission for Women is calling for nominations to honor outstanding women for induction into the 2008 Women’s Hall of Fame. The 12th annual Hall of Fame will induct worthy women who have achieved distinction in their work, made lasting contributions to the community and improved the quality of life for others. Each nominee must be either a native of Howard County or a resident for at least 10 consecutive years.

Nomination forms are available on-line and may be downloaded by accessing the Department of Citizen Services homepage at: www.howardcountymd.gov/CitizenServices/CS_HomePage.htm. Forms are also available at county library branches, from the Gateway Building, 6751 Columbia Gateway Drive in Columbia or by calling the Department of Citizen Services at (410) 313-6400.

The nomination packet must be received by Friday, November 16, 2007 and mailed to the Commission for Women, Women’s Hall of Fame Committee, P.O. Box 348, Simpsonville, MD 21150-0348. It must contain the completed nomination form, three letters of recommendation, a typed biographical account limited to two 8 ½ x 11” white pages and a black and white 5” x 7” head/shoulder photograph of the nominee.

The Women’s Hall of Fame recognizes lasting contributions or achievements of up to five Howard County women and, on occasion, one historical woman, who are making or have made a significant impact on Howard County, the State of Maryland or the Nation, and who are or were role models for present and future Howard Countians. Nominations are reviewed by an independent committee that makes final recommendations to the Women’s Commission. The nominees will be honored at a public ceremony during Women’s History Month in March 2008.
