NEWS RELEASE September 25, 2007 Media Contacts: Kevin Enright, Director, Office of Public Information, 410-313-2022Steve Heinbach, Supervisor, Department of Recreation & Parks, 410-313-1691 “Voice of the MD Terrapins” Johnny Holliday will be keynote speaker Join Howard County for the 2007 “Community Sports Hall of Fame” Induction Ceremony October 22 ELLICOTT CITY, MD – County Executive Ken Ulman and the Department of Recreation & Parks will host the “Community Sports Hall of Fame,” induction ceremony on Monday, October 22 at 6 p.m. at the Ten Oaks Ballroom, 5000 Signal Bell Lane in Clarksville. The induction will take place during the County’s 5th annual “Celebration of Sports” banquet which honors outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions to community recreational sports in Howard County. This year’s keynote speaker will be local favorite Johnny Holliday, the “voice of the Maryland Terrapins.” 2007 inductees include: Marie Curry, an early organizer of little league baseball teams in the African-American communities of Howard County; Paul Donovan, a 27-year coach of youth baseball; Jim McCauley who developed the Columbia Basketball Association’s Instructional Clinic for six and seven year olds and was an early advocate for girls’ basketball in the County; Bill McCormack, Jr., a 33-year coach for the Soccer Association of Columbia and 23-year coach for the Columbia Basketball Association; Joe Wall who helped start the Columbia Optimist Boys Recreation Association’s wrestling program in 1970 and coached 14 years in the COBRA football program; and Jim Yedlicka, Director of Recreation for the Columbia Association from 1969 to 1977. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
