“Getting the Pay You Deserve: Women Negotiating Better Salaries” Workshop Planned

ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County’s Commission for Women and Howard Community College will co-sponsor a workshop entitled, “Getting the Pay You Deserve: Women Negotiating Better Salaries,” on Saturday, October 27 at the College. The event begins with breakfast from 9 – 10:30 a.m., and will feature Evelyn Murphy, author of Getting Even, Why Women Don’t Get Paid Like Men and What To Do About It.

Evelyn Murphy is the Founder and President of The Wage Project, a program dedicated to closing the wage gap in the American workplace. She will discuss why women do not get paid as much as men and what this wage discrimination costs women over their lifetime.

Breakfast will be followed by two workshops, each starting at 10:45. Start Smart, for women in college, is a 3-hour workshop designed to help participants get top dollar for their starting salary. Get What You’re Worth, Get What You Want, from 10:45 to 12:30, is for women in or returning to the workplace who want to improve their negotiating skills.

Registration is required. Registration for the breakfast with Evelyn Murphy is $25, and the Get What You’re Worth workshop is $10. College students may register for the full event (breakfast and Start Smart workshop) for $5.

To register, contract Tricia O’Rafferty at 410-772-4658 or torafferty@howardcc.edu, or download the form at www.howardcountymd.gov/CitizenServices/CS_HomePage.htm.
