County Executive Ulman Says Thank You to Howard Transit Customers with Free Rides

ELLICOTT CITY, MD – As a celebration of Howard Transit’s 12 years of service and to thank customers for their patronage and support, County Executive Ken Ulman has designated November 24 & 25 and December 22 & 23 as Howard Transit Customer Appreciation Days and is offering free rides to patrons on those four days.

“In recognition of the more than 750,000 customers who boarded Howard Transit buses during 2007, we want to say thank you,” said Ulman. “We place a high value on the suggestions and comments our customers make throughout the year to help us improve our transportation service, and I hope the four days of free rides will show them just how much we appreciate their loyalty and their patience.”

For the second year in a row, Howard Transit was just named the “Best Fixed Route” bus system in Maryland by the Transportation Association of Maryland. Howard Transit was recognized for its recent service enhancements, environmental commitment by purchasing less polluting hybrid vehicles, purchase of low floor buses which allow better access and bus stop improvements.

“This year has been challenging as we transitioned to a new vendor to operate bus services. Over the next 24 months, our focus will be on replacing more of our aging fleet. It is gratifying that our customers have consistently supported us, even when it wasn’t always easy. We want to acknowledge their support and thank them,” said Carl Balser, Transportation Chief, Department of Planning and Zoning.

“Whether you are a seasoned bus rider or trying transit for the first time, we appreciate your patronage. We encourage you to park your automobile and try Howard Transit this holiday season,” said Ulman.
