Howard County Offers Safety Brochure to Howard Transit Passengers

ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County Executive Ken Ulman recently announced the release of a new publication “Howard Transit – Safety Guidelines for Bus Passengers.” “Howard Transit will carry one million passengers this year. We take the safety of each and every one of those passengers very seriously,” said Ulman.

The safety brochure, available in English and Spanish, provides guidelines on boarding and exiting the bus, location of emergency equipment, identification of safety features, drivers and passengers’ responsibilities and emergency contact numbers. “Making this information available to riders can save lives,” said Carl Balser, Chief, Division of Transportation Planning, Howard County.

According to the American Public Transportation Association, public transportation systems are judged on: safety records, success in building a safety-oriented culture within the system, and outreach to riders and the community on bus safety issues. As Howard Transit ridership continues to grow, it becomes increasingly important for the County to provide this type of information to ensure a safe and secure bus ride.

Customers can pick up a copy of the new safety brochure from any Howard Transit bus driver or by contacting the HT customer service line at 1-800-270-9553. For more information on Howard Transit, visit their website at www.howardtransit.com.
