Howard County Presents First-Ever “WomenFest”

ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County’s Department of Citizen Services, Office on Aging presents their first ever WomenFest, a wellness event for women, on Thursday, September 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Bain Center, 5470 Ruth Keeton Way in Columbia. WomenFest is an interactive day that focuses on health, wellness, fashion and beauty, and is designed to inspire women to live more balanced, healthier and fuller lives. Admission is free.

This event will feature health screenings, demonstrations, workshops, seminars, a variety of vendor exhibits and food. Attendees can participate in belly dancing and drumming demonstrations, and learn how to maximize their exercise routines using inexpensive equipment. There will also be free bone density, blood pressure, HIV, glucose and cholesterol screenings available at the festival. Health experts will be on hand to offer guidance on women’s wellness, medications and nutrition.

Seminar topics include: Make Your Second Act Your Most Inspiring; Brain Fitness, Laughing Matters, and Dating … A Whole New World; Social Networking for Dummies, Getting Savvy in the New Economy; and Your Future Paycheck: Where Will It Come From and How to Keep It. At noon, Rave Reviews Consignment shop will present their “Fashion on a Budget” workshop to show attendees how to use accessories and resale pieces to complement one’s wardrobe inexpensively.

Attendees who wish to reserve a gourmet box lunch at WomenFest must register by Thursday, September 3. The suggested lunch donation for attendees over 60 is $3.00; there is a $6.00 charge for lunch for all others.
