LOCAL CHILDREN'S BOARD

Local Management Boards were created by State law to “ensure the implementation of a local, interagency service delivery system for children, youth, and families.” LMBs add value to local planning and decision making by assessing the needs of the community and, in collaboration with service providers, policy makers, community leaders, and others, make sure that children and families get needed services and support.

Every Local Management Board has members from both the private sector and public agencies. Some members are mandated: the local government, the school system, health department, social services agency, mental health, and juvenile justice. Other members are selected based on community concerns and the knowledge and skills they bring to the table. LMBs also include others in the planning and decision making process through committee membership, community forums and roundtables, and other techniques.
