Police Officer of the Month January 2002 Police Officer Baker's supervisors clearly recognize the consistent quality of his performance. During the month of January, Officer Baker demonstrated a dedication to his assigned community, the police profession and to his fellow officers through his hard work, perseverance and productivity. Some of his more noteworthy incidents include: FRAUD INVESTIGATION: Officer Baker responded to the CVS store in the Hickory Ridge Village Center for a fraud report. Initial reports were that three males entered the store and tried to purchase items with a check that the clerk knew was not theirs. The subjects then left and a few minutes later a female came in and tried to pass the same check. A witness supplied a name of the female subject to CVS personnel and this information was given to Officer Baker. Through records checks and other investigative techniques, Officer Baker was able to determine that the name of the female subject supplied by the citizen, though well intended, was incorrect. Officer Baker was able to properly identify and speak to the subject and file the appropriate charges. SUSPENDED AND WANTED SUBJECT: Officer Baker monitored a radio transmission for a vehicle in the Harpers Choice area where the registered owner was both suspended and wanted. Officer Baker quickly responded to the area and was able to locate the unoccupied vehicle on the parking lot of the Harpers Choice Middle School. Officer Baker took up a surveillance location and waited for the operator to return to his vehicle. Utilizing his knowledge of the motor vehicle laws, Officer Baker stopped the vehicle on Beaverkill Road for a registration violation. Identification of the driver resulted in the driver's arrest for Driving While suspended and Failure To Appear in Montgomery County. SUSPICIOUS SUBJECT: Officer Baker was dispatched to a suspicious subject call on Fall River Row. He used a tactical approach to the rear of the residence in order to observe the activities of the suspects who were reported to be going in and out of the residence and carrying objects from the residence into the woods. Upon observing an open sliding door to the rear of the residence, Officer Baker requested additional units, which included K-9, and established a perimeter. The suspects soon fled the area, leaving behind an array of electronics, clothing and food items. Due to the fact that K-9 was called by Officer Baker, a trail was quickly detected and three juvenile subjects were apprehended and charged with Residential Burglary, Theft and Destruction of Property. CONGRATULATIONS ON A JOB WELL DONE! |
