Police Officer of the Month

November 2004

Officer Jamie Machiesky has been chosen as the Police Officer of the Month for November 2004. He is being recognized for his use of good judgment and his high volume of self-initiated criminal arrests.

Over the course of the month, Officer Machiesky embraced the department’s current emphasis on traffic enforcement. Knowing that a seemingly routine traffic stop often produces other more significant offenses, Officer Machiesky stopped a driver on November 4 for an equipment violation. Through observation and investigation, he found that the driver was under the influence and arrested him for DUI. During a search of the vehicle, Officer Machiesky recovered a significant amount of crack cocaine.

Later in the month, while conducting routine computer checks on his MDT, Officer Machiesky located a vehicle that had been reported stolen from Laurel City. After calling for assistance and finding a safe location to stop the vehicle, he was able to arrest the driver without incident. Officer Machiesky quickly established a rapport with the driver and subsequently conducted an interrogation. Officer Machiesky was able to uncover valuable information about the stolen vehicle and turn that information over to CIB for follow-up investigation. The driver was then charged with felony theft and other traffic violations.

Officer Machiesky can also be counted on by his fellow squad mates in high-risk situations. On November 19, officers responded to a fight call in the Stevens Forest area that was thought to involve a handgun. Bystanders quickly turned the already dangerous situation into a near riot, threatening the safety of the officers. Officer Machiesky and his squad mates were able to quickly subdue the resisting suspect, make the arrest and calm the situation before it turned violent.

Congratulations to Officer Machiesky for a job well done!
