Police Officer of the Month

December 2005

Chief Livesay has selected Officer Sarah Kayser as the police officer of the month for December.

Although one of Howard County’s newer officers, Officer Kayser’s extraordinary efforts Throughout the month were indicative of a more tenured HCPD member.

Currently a night shift officer assigned to west Columbia, Officer Kayser handled 103 incidents in 15 days. Additionally, her self-initiated patrol activity yielded an additional 23 insight reports.

It was from this proactive effort that Officer Kayser produced some impressive monthly statistics, including 21 arrests, two of which were felonies. Taking extra time to investigate her traffic contacts, 14 of her 21 arrests stemmed from routine motor vehicle violations.

Officer Kayser also wrote over 80 state citations, 43 warnings and recovered stolen tags and several falsified driver’s licenses to compliment her other efforts.

During one specific incident, Officer Kayser began with only a suspect’s nickname, but using investigative tools at her disposal, she was able to have the suspect identified in a photo line-up, which ultimately led to an arrest warrant for felony assault.

Though the holiday season can often divert our attention to unusual circumstances, Officer Kayser’s consistency and efforts in December led to an impressive month and safer streets. Congratulations to Officer Kayser for winning this award.
