Officer Erica Heavner was selected as Police Officer of the Month for July 2007. During the month of July, Officer Heavner handled over 60 calls for service and had 17 total arrests.

In one case in July, Officer Heavner responded for a reported robbery. Upon arrival, she observed subjects fleeing the scene. Through investigation, Officer Heavner was able to locate two subjects involved. She learned that a subject had lost his wallet and two juveniles had recovered it and stolen the cash from inside. When the owner returned in attempts to locate the wallet, he confronted the two juveniles. The owner of the wallet proceeded to assault one of the juveniles with a bat.

Two adults were charged with assault and robbery for beating the juvenile and taking his money and the two juveniles were charged with the initial theft. Officer Heavner pursued leads and interviewed difficult suspects and victims before concluding the case.

Officer Heavner is a proactive officer who focuses her efforts on traffic enforcement, which resulted in 10 adult custodial traffic arrests for the month. She has demonstrated her ability to work as a team member, as well as individually.
