Howard County Police School Resource Officer

School Resource Officer Section

This section consists of two sergeants supervising a dozen officers assigned to each of the 13 Howard County high schools. A School Resource Officer (SRO) mentors students and conducts instructional classes on a variety of topics. Officers handle requests for services in the schools

including disturbances, arrests for criminal offenses, counseling and mediation sessions, parent-student conferences and community meetings. When possible, officers try to resolve minor infractions without having to make an arrest. The officers work in partnership with the school administrators to develop other alternatives to correct delinquent behavior.
