Deputy Sheriff • Administrative • Security Officers • Student Internships


The Howard County Sheriff's Office is accepting ongoing applications for Deputy Sheriff positions, as well as administrative positions and Security Officers as they become available.

Interested persons may now apply online for any open positions with the Sheriff's Office at the Howard County Government website. Instructions for online application are available through the site.

If you do not have home access to a computer and the Internet, online applications may be completed via computers at all County libraries and at the Howard County Human Resources Office.

DEPUTY SHERIFF REQUIREMENTS


Lateral Deputy Sheriff positions require a valid Maryland Police Training Commission Certificate and prior law enforcement experience.

Recruit Deputies are required to successfully complete a Maryland Police Training Commission Certified Training Academy.


STUDENT INTERNSHIPS


The Howard County Sheriff's Office recognizes that part of its commitment to community involvement is the development of a Student Intern Program that collaborates with local colleges and universities. The program provides students with the opportunity to observe and participate in designated activities with the Sheriff's Office while allowing the Office to observe potential deputy applicants in action. The focus of the program is to expose Student Interns to a variety of different positions and duties within the Sheriff's Office.

Internships range in duration from 60 to 120 hours and must be completed within one college semester. Preference will be given to those students majoring in criminal justice and public policy, though students from all academic subjects are encouraged to apply.
