July 14, 2009

Howard County State's Attorney Dario J. Broccolino has been elected First Vice President of the Maryland State's Attorney's Association (MDSAA), the professional association that serves the offices of Maryland's 24 state's attorneys.

Broccolino, a member of the organization’s board of directors, was elected at the MDSAA’s summer conference on June 23. The organization’s board of directors is composed of all of Maryland's state’s attorneys.

As first vice president he will chair the organization’s legislative committee which reviews and analyzes state legislation affecting criminal prosecutions in the State of Maryland. The committee, consisting of prosecutors from several jurisdictions, works to develop consensus positions on proposed legislation and other pertinent issues, and to advocate those positions during the 90-day session of the Maryland General Assembly.

Dario Broccolino joined the Howard County State's Attorney's Office as deputy state’s attorney in 1999 after serving as the executive director of MDSAA from 1988 to 1998. Mr. Broccolino received a B.S. degree from Loyola College in Maryland in 1967, followed by a J.D. degree in 1970 and a LL.M. degree in 1996 from the University of Baltimore. In December 2007 he was name interim state’s attorney following the resignation of the-then state’s attorney to become a circuit court judge. On April 4, 2008, he was appointed state’s attorney, by the judges of the Circuit Court for Howard County, to complete his predecessor’s unfilled term.

Headquartered in Ellicott City, the Maryland State’s Attorney’s Association is an advocate for the honorable and ethical administration of justice in Maryland, and provides continuing education and additional services for prosecuting attorneys and other personnel affiliated with the 24 state’s attorneys’ offices throughout the state.
