Alternative Work Schedule Expands Service at State's Attorney's Office

August 4, 2008

Howard County’s adoption of an alternative work schedule policy for its government workforce has resulted in expanded telephone service hours at the Howard County State’s Attorney’s Office. Prior to the implementation of the alternative schedule, the main phone lines for the state’s attorney’s office were staffed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Since moving to the new schedule on July 21, the main phone lines are staffed from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

“When County Executive Ken Ulman reintroduced the alternative work schedule earlier this month, we viewed it as an opportunity to creatively expand access to our offices while accomplishing his goals of reducing commuting costs and gasoline consumption, lowering stress levels for employees and decreasing pollution,” says State’s Attorney Dario J. Broccolino. According to Broccolino, with almost 75 percent of the support staff now working flexible hours, phones are staffed for longer hours.

To reach the State’s Attorney’s Circuit Court and Administrative Divisions, located in the Carroll Building, the main phone number is 410-313-2108. The District Court Division, located in the District Court Multipurpose Center, can be reached at 410-313-3100. The expanded hours roughly mirror when the offices are open but it is recommended that visitors call first due to operating variances affecting public access at the Carroll Building in the county office complex and the District Court Multipurpose Center.
