April 4, 2008 Dario J. Broccolino has been appointed State’s Attorney for Howard County to complete the unexpired term of his predecessor who was named a circuit court judge last year. A three-judge Howard County Circuit Court panel announced the appointment today following a selection process that evaluated the qualifications of seven applicants for the position. Mr. Broccolino has served as interim state’s attorney following the resignation of Timothy J. McCrone on December 14, 2007. In 1999, then-State’s Attorney Marna McLendon appointed Mr. Broccolino deputy states attorney. He continued in that position when Mr. McCrone succeeded her in January 2003. Prior to joining the State’s Attorney’s Office Mr. Broccolino served as State’s Attorneys’ Coordinator for Maryland and the Executive Director of the Maryland State’s Attorney’s Association from 1988 to 1999. A veteran prosecutor, Dario Broccolino was an assistant state’s attorney in Baltimore City, serving under four state’s attorneys between 1977 and 1988. Toward the latter part of his service in Baltimore City, his expertise included the prosecution of economic crimes, arson, and narcotics. Born and raised in Baltimore, Mr. Broccolino received his B.S. degree from Loyola College in Maryland in 1967, and his J.D. degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1970. He earned a second, advanced degree, a LL.M in Taxation from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1994. Prior to his law career, from 1967 to 1971, Mr. Broccolino was a social studies teacher at Kenwood High School and Dulaney High School in Baltimore County. He also served on the adjunct faculty at the University of Maryland School of Law from 1988 to 1990. Mr. Broccolino, 63, has resided in Howard County since 1975. He has been active in a number of civic activities. His current professional activities include membership on the board of directors of the Maryland State’s Attorney’s Association where he serves on the legislative and training committees. Since his appointment by Gov. Glendening in December 2000, he has served as a member of the State of Maryland’s Handgun Roster Board with a reappointment commission from Gov. Ehrlich in 2004. Mr. Broccolino is a member of the Howard County Bar Association. |
