GIS Services for Citizens

Many GIS data layers and map products are available for purchase. A complete product/price list is shown below. All products may be purchased from the Howard County Central Services Office in the Howard Building, 410-313-2073. (click here for directions) Updates are not included in the purchase prices.

Printed Map Products

Electronic (Digital) Map Products

Printed Map Products: Several large format map products are available for purchase. The GIS Division does not have resources to create custom maps for the public.

Land Feature Grid Map	1” = 200’ black and white maps showing such features and roads, buildings, trees, topography, etc.	Last updated spring 2002	$1 per grid
Aerial-topo grid maps	1” = 200’ color plots showing aerial photography and 5' contour lines of elevation.	Last updated spring 2004	$30 per grid
Zoning	1” = 600’ black and white maps showing zoning, various easements, historic districts roads and parcel boundaries.	Every 6 months in July and January	$1 per grid

Electronic GIS data layers: Important – Electronic GIS data layers require specialized GIS software for viewing and analysis.

Data is available in either AutoCAD^© or ESRI^© shapefile formats. DVDs are $200 each, which includes countywide coverage of all data layers. For detailed descriptions of accuracy levels, source information, attribution and updates of each data layer, please review the Data Information Page for that layer. All data purchases are subject to license agreement.

Geodetic Benchmarks & Stations	Locations for survey control benchmarks and stations including scanned recovery cards for each location.	As needed
Land Features	Planimetric data layers such as buildings, roads, streams, water bodies, pools, trees, trails, sports fields, etc.	Semi-annually
Property boundaries	Locations of property boundaries attributed with tax account ID.	Annual
Street centerline	Road centerlines attributed with road names and address ranges.	Annual
Topography	Topographic lines at 2’ contour intervals	As needed

Map Gallery DVD: This product contains all of the web pages and PDF maps already available in the Map Gallery. This DVD may be useful for users with a slow internet connection, that want to instantly view all Map Gallery maps without downloading them. The cost is $30.

Orthophotography DVD: This product contains countywide digital ortho photography collected in the spring of 2006 at a 1:2400 spatial accuracy. The cost is $200.
