ELLICOTT CITY, MD – The Howard County Department of Public Works (DPW) will hold a community outreach meeting on Thursday, August 28th at 6:00 p.m. in the Oella Room at the Roger Carter Community Center in Ellicott City, to discuss the concept plan for an expanded Tiber Park along the southwest corner of Main Street and Maryland Avenue in Ellicott City.
The expanded Tiber Park advances the vision for an activated and vibrant Historic Ellicott City called for in Howard County Executive Calvin Ball’s Ellicott City (EC) Safe and Sound Plan and policies established in the Ellicott City Watershed Master Plan. This project will replace the temporary park space that exists today with enhancements including gathering spaces, site furnishings, and seating areas, improved lighting, interpretive signage, and a new pedestrian bridge with accessible ramp. Construction of the expanded park will commence upon completion of the Maryland Avenue Culvert project, one of seven flood mitigation projects in the EC Safe and Sound Plan.
Through our ambitious Ellicott City Safe and Sound Plan, we are innovatively addressing flood mitigation, preserving historic character and enhancing the safety of our beloved Ellicott City, while also breathing new life into our town. The expanded Tiber Park will bring excitement and energy to Lower Main Street with an inviting, vibrant outdoor space where residents, visitors, and community members can come together to celebrate this historic community.
The outreach meeting will include a short formal presentation of the conceptual layout of the park, followed by a question-and-answer discussion. Display graphics will also be available for review and discussion and County staff and the project’s design consultant will be on hand to answer any questions and gather public comments.
For those unable to attend the meeting, the presentation and graphics will be available following the meeting on the “Ellicott City Watershed Master Plan” website. Additionally, for questions and/or to submit comments about the project, please contact Project Manager Brandon Love at 410-313-6139 or email blove@howardcountymd.gov.
