ELLICOTT CITY, MD – A Howard County construction project to install a sidewalk along Old Saint Johns Lane from Leaf Shade Drive to Saint Johns Lane in Ellicott City, as part of the County’s WalkHoward plan to connect the neighborhood to St. John's Lane Elementary School and Mt. Hebron High School, has begun. The project includes the installation of ramps and crosswalk markings at the intersection of Old Saint Johns Lane and Leaf Shade Drive and the addition of curb, gutter, and a storm drain inlet. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by Friday, August 22nd.

In the last seven years, we have invested more than $65 million in multimodal transportation projects, allowing us to construct, expand, and improve our infrastructure to ensure a safer, healthier, and more inclusive community for all. Like our other sidewalk enhancements throughout the county, this project builds upon our best-in-the-nation Complete Streets Policy and impactful WalkHoward initiatives to improve neighborhood connections and provide our residents with safe, healthy, and enhanced transportation options.

Signs will be posted and flagging operations will be in place to direct traffic, as temporary lane closures in the project area can be expected during construction hours, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Additionally, the sidewalk will be closed at each end of the work zone where the sidewalks currently end.

While the County and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, drivers are reminded to stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Please slow down and don’t follow too closely when traveling through a work zone. Remember, work zone safety is in your hands.
