ELLICOTT CITY, MD – A Howard County construction project to rehabilitate a retaining wall along the westside of Beechwood Road, near 4671 Beechwood Road and next to County Bridge HO-156 in Ellicott City, is scheduled to begin on or about Monday, September 15th. The project includes soil nailing and shotcrete lining to restore the structural integrity of the retaining wall and safely support the roadway behind it. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by early October 2025.

Signs will be posted to alert motorists and residents of the work and corresponding detour, as Beechwood Road will be closed to thru traffic during the duration of the project. Motorists will follow a clearly marked detour using Bonnie Branch and Ilchester Roads. Residents of Beechwood Road will have vehicular access to and from their homes during construction.

While the County and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, drivers are reminded to stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Please slow down and don’t follow too closely when traveling through a work zone. Remember, work zone safety is in your hands.
