ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County Government’s Police Accountability Board seeks applicants to serve on its Disciplinary Trial Boards. The deadline to apply is Friday, August 1st.
Made up of an Administrative Law Judge, an officer of equal rank of the accused, and a civilian member, Trial Board Members are responsible for serving on trial boards convened when law enforcement officers subject to discipline, request a review.
To be eligible for consideration, civilian member candidates must be a Howard County resident, 25 years of age or older, have a committed interest and active involvement in Howard County community service, and be able to attend scheduled Trial Board hearings. Members will have to undergo a criminal background check and must participate in a 16-hour member training on matters relating to police procedures from the Maryland Police Training and Standards Commission. Additionally, an individual may not serve as a member if they have been convicted of a felony or a misdemeanor with a statutory penalty of more than two years. Members also cannot be an active police officer, an employee of county government, or the Sheriff’s Office.
