ORIGINAL RELEASE
Howard County police are investigating an assault and a non-fatal shooting Aug. 22 in Elkridge that stemmed from a confrontation between a private security guard and an adult male.
At approximately 12:43 p.m., police responded to the 7200 block of Montgomery Road for a report of a shooting. Through witness accounts and review of security camera footage, detectives learned that the male assaulted a security guard who had confronted him outside of the Green Valley Marketplace. Shortly thereafter, a security guard supervisor who observed the ongoing assault shot the male once.
Both the male, 30, and the security guard (also male), 62, were transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center where they are in stable condition.
It is unclear at this time what led to the initial confrontation between the male and the security guard. The supervisor, a 57-year-old male, was uninjured and remained on scene.
Detectives expect to file assault charges against the male who assaulted the security guard. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
