Howard County Executive Calvin Ball released the following statement in response to Howard County Public School System’s first week of school bus challenges, delays and temporary route cancellations.

Howard County Department of Public Works’ Stormwater Management Division will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, September 12th to present plans to repair an existing pond located near 7680 Woodpark Lane in Columbia.

In response to high temperatures forecast by the National Weather Service, Dr. Kelly Russo, Howard County Health Department Medical Director, has issued a heat alert for Howard County. The alert has been issued for Tuesday, September 5 and Wednesday September 6.

One person was killed and another was injured. 

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball today announced the Bureau of Environmental Services will hold a tire drop-off recycling event at the Alpha Ridge Landfill from Saturday, September 9 through Saturday, September 16. Collections will take place 8:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. each day. Howard County residents may dispose of scrap tires free of charge.

A Howard County project to repair a sewer service pipe along the Little Patuxent River in the vicinity of 10005 Old Columbia Road in Columbia, just south of eastbound MD 32, has begun. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by mid-April.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball, Recreation & Parks Director A. Raul Delerme, and local leaders cut the ribbon on the new playground at Schooley Mill Park designed to be a model of inclusion and age-friendly for all. The 30-year-old playground received an entire facelift and the now includes features to accommodate cognitive, communicative, social/emotional and sensory disabilities.

The Howard County Public Facilities & Spaces Report Evaluation and Action Commission is once again seeking community assistance in gathering community input and historical records behind the naming of Howard County Library System’s seven facilities.

Howard County Government offices, 50+ centers, courts and animal shelter will be closed on Monday, February 20th in observance of the Presidents’ Day holiday. There will be regular Monday trash, recycling and food scrap curbside collections on the 20th, and the Alpha Ridge Landfill will be open.
