Howard County Executive Calvin Ball today was joined by Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich to announce and formalize a groundbreaking partnership between the two counties to launch the US 29 Flash Bus Rapid Transit Service Extension project in 2026.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball today announced the launch of the County’s Department of Housing and Community Development’s new Older Adult Rental Assistance Program, which aims to assist low-income households consisting of at least one older adult that are housing cost burdened due to high rent payments.

The County's Department of Public Works will hold a community outreach meeting on Thursday, June 5th, to discuss a project to replace the Old Montgomery Road bridge over the Lake Elkhorn Branch near 8910 Old Montgomery Road in Columbia.

Guilford Road was closed at Mission Road for approximately four hours.

Funding will also provide professional development and support to child welfare caseworkers at the Maryland Department of Human Services' Howard County Department of Social Services. 

Ball’s legislation will provide up to $14.5 million in additional funding to the Howard County Public School System in the Fiscal Year 2026 budget.

Howard County’s Office of Transportation and Department of Public Works’ Transportation and Special Projects Division will host two in-person community engagement opportunities this May, to provide an update on the new extension of the US 29 Flash Bus Rapid Transit from Montgomery County to Howard County. 

The County's Department of Public Works’ Bureau of Highways’ Traffic Engineering Division will hold a second community outreach meeting on Tuesday, May 20th, to present its final traffic calming plans for Columbia’s Phelps Luck Drive and High Tor Hill. The project will implement strategies available in the County’s recently updated Howard County Neighborhood Traffic Calming Policy, to combat excessive vehicular speeds along these two roadways. 

The County’s Office of Transportation will hold a public meeting on Thursday, May 22nd, to present its initial feasibility study findings and concept plans for proposed Complete Streets pedestrian and bicycle improvement plans for Montgomery Road between Deborah Jean Drive and Rowanberry Drive.
