Howard County Executive Calvin Ball today announced new partnerships – including a volunteer-based delivery service – that will significantly expand no-cost access to medical equipment provided through an innovative program known as the Loan Closet.

The Howard County Health Department today announced an expansion of the “It’s OK to Ask” suicide prevention campaign to raise awareness and reduce stigma about mental health and suicide across all ages and cultures.

The Howard County Health Department’s Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) unit is the recipient of a NACCHO (National Association of County and City Health Officials) Tier 2 award of $10,000.

The Howard County Local Health Improvement Coalition (HCLHIC) was awarded $50,000 Howard County by CareFirst BlueCross/BlueShield through their National Health Equity Strategy to address the Diabetes epidemic.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball is seeking applicants and student applicants interested in serving on the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission. Student members are non-voting members and each serve a one-year term from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023. The deadline to apply is Sunday, June 12th.

This Memorial Day, the County’s Office of Veterans and Military Families (OVMF) will honor county fallen hometown heroes with tributes posted on its “Fallen Heroes Tribute” website. Additionally, to supplement its initial research, OVMF is asking the community to help it identify additional fallen service members so the County can expand its Tribute page to honor all who have served.

Howard County closes on $75 million low-interest federal loan to support flood project 

Executive Calvin Ball lauded today’s passage of FY23 operating and capital budget plans in Howard County, and said that historic funding for public education, public safety, mental health services, environmental protection and parks and public works projects will improve the quality of life for all in Howard County.

A Howard County construction project to relocate the overflow of an elevated storage tank near the US 29/MD 216 interchange in Laurel, is expected to begin on or about Monday, June 6th. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by late June.

Three local companies, Natoya Reid, DMD, LLC, American Bully Manufacturing LLC, and AppleCore's Bake Shoppe, were awarded $25,000 in prize funding after winning a pitch competition in Howard County’s entrepreneur accelerator program, HoCo Higher.

To help raise awareness about and in alignment with Protect Week (June 13th to June 17th) and World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (June 15th), Howard County’s Department of Community Resources and Services’ (DCRS) will host an Elder Abuse Awareness Resource Fair on Saturday, June 11th. The Fair will feature representatives from AARP Maryland, Howard County Police Department, Howard County Sheriff’s Office, CCCSMD, Age-Friendly Howard County, the Howard County Department of Social Services and other community partners, as well as a document shredding event.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball will honor individuals, businesses and organizations exemplifying outstanding service and sacrifice during the pandemic with a new “Rise to the Challenge” award. Now through July 8th, nominations for award recipients across five categories are being accepted electronically and via mail. The winners will be announced later this year.
