Public Works to Begin Maintenance Work to Resurface 20 Miles of County Roads
A road maintenance project to extend the lifespan of more than 20 miles of Howard County’s roads in the western region by seven to ten years, has begun. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by August.
Woodcrest Drive Stream Rehabilitation Project to Begin
A Howard County construction project to stabilize two tributaries to Deep Run in Ellicott City, is scheduled to begin on or about Thursday, June 16th. Located north of Mayfield Woods Middle School, the sections of the stream to be stabilized extend from the walking path north of the school upstream to a site near 8089 Woodloo Drive. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by mid-March 2023.
Leishear Road Closure, Detour to Begin
A developer project to lower a portion of Leishear Road in North Laurel in order to meet sight-distance requirements, will begin on or about Monday, June 20th. During the project, Leishear Road between Graeloch Road and Mary Lee Lane (opposite the entrance to the new Wellington Farms subdivision) will be closed to through traffic. Weather permitting, the work is expected to be completed in late July 2022.
Complete Street Improvements Underway Along Oakland Mills Road
A Howard County construction project to improve pedestrian access and safety, while providing roadway improvements along Oakland Mills Road in Columbia has begun. This Oakland Mills Road Complete Street project will be done in two phases and weather permitting, is expected to be completed by mid-September.
Howard County Local Health Improvement Coalition Receives State Award to Address Food Insecurity
The Howard County Local Health Improvement Coalition (HCLHIC) has received a $20,000 award from the Maryland Department of Health’s (MDH) Center for Chronic Disease Prevention & Control (CCDPC) to establish a committee to address food insecurity in Howard County. This newly-formed HCLHIC committee will work to implement food security initiatives among priority populations.

Howard County’s Department of Public Works’ Stormwater Management Division will hold a public meeting on Monday, April 4th to present plans for a pond decommissioning, a pond retrofit and a stream stabilization and restoration project at three sites located south of MD 103 between Chatsworth Way and Wheatfield Way.

Howard County Minimum Wage Increase to Begin April 1st
Established by Howard County Council Bill No. 82-2021, starting April 1, 2022, the minimum wage in Howard County will increase to $14.00 for employers and $12.50 for small employers. A series of local minimum wage increases for employees working in Howard County will take place over a four year time period, with the minimum wage reaching $16.00 per hour by July 1, 2026.
