Police focus on roadway safety as kids head back to school
As students prepare to return to school later this month, Howard County police are working to ensure that children, parents and teachers arrive safely. Through a continuing back-to-school program, known as H.A.S.T.E. (Helping Arriving Students Through Enforcement), officers will focus on enforcing speed, seat belt and child safety seat laws in school zones.

Baltimore Street Improvements to Begin
A Howard County construction project to improve pedestrian access and safety, while providing vehicular traffic calming along Baltimore Street between Fair Street and Williams Street in Savage, is scheduled to begin on or about Monday, August 30th. Signs and flagging operations will be in place to direct traffic as needed, as temporary lane closures can be expected during construction hours, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by late November.
Cardinal Forest Pond Improvements to Begin
A Howard County construction project to improve a stormwater management detention pond near 8825 Cardinal Forest Circle in Laurel, is expected to begin on or about Monday, August 30th. The project is not expected to impact the flow of traffic; however, a portion of the sidewalk adjacent to the work site will be closed to pedestrians for the duration of the work. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by late December.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball is currently seeking applicants, specifically those over the age of 55, who are interested in serving on the County’s Commission on Aging.
