County Executive Ball Emphasizes Progress Through Adversity in 2021 State of the County
On the evening of November 16th, Howard County Executive Calvin Ball delivered his 2021 State of the County address, outlining the incredible progress Howard County has made throughout the past year despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. During his speech, Ball touted some of the highest vaccination rates in the State contributing to low case rates and a sense of normalcy for many residents and he announced $2 million in funding for enhanced mental health services in schools.

25 Emerging Businesses Complete Howard County’s Inaugural Entrepreneur Accelerator Program
Howard County’s innovative entrepreneur accelerator program, “HoCo Higher” ended last week with a pitch competition and three winners who will receive $21,000 in total funding. The 25 entrepreneurs that completed the inaugural class received $5,000 in seed money. HoCo Higher is a joint partnership between County Executive Calvin Ball, M&T Bank and Howard County Economic Development Authority.
Howard County Government Closings for Thanksgiving Holiday on November 25th & 26th
Howard County Government offices, 50+ centers, courts, animal shelter, Recreation & Parks’ community and athletic centers, activity rooms and historic sites, and the Alpha Ridge Landfill will be closed on Thursday, November 25th in observance of the Thanksgiving Day holiday. As there will be no curbside trash, recycling, yard trim or food scrap collection on Thanksgiving Day, the County’s holiday "slide” schedule will be in effect for the remainder of the week. County park gates will be open on the 25th; however, there will be no staff on duty.

Upper Little Patuxent Parallel Sewer Extension Project to Begin
A Howard County construction project to increase sewer capacity in the 4000 block of Woodland Road in Ellicott City, is expected to begin on or about Monday, December 6th. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by late December 2022.
