More than 150 Young Adults Complete Howard County’s Summer Workforce Program
Howard County Executive Calvin Ball this week marked the end of the empowering six-week Summer Youth Program with its 151 teen and young adult participants at Centennial Park. This Office of Workforce Development paid program focuses on teaching youth valuable job readiness skills and career exploration with local business partners and participation in the program has doubled every year since 2019.
Wharff Lane Gully Stabilization Project to Begin
A Howard County construction project to stabilize the roadway culvert outfall and the outfall tributary to the Patapsco River along both sides of the roadway between 4886 and 4920 Wharff Lane in Ellicott City, to to improve stream channels and steep slopes. The project is expected to begin on or about Thursday, September 1st, is not expected to impact traffic flow and weather permitting, is expected to be completed by late January 2023.
Gerwig Lane Dam Retrofit Project to Begin
A Howard County construction project to improve a stormwater management pond adjacent to 9665 Gerwig Lane in Columbia, is expected to begin on or about Monday, August 29th. Along with replacing the existing metal pipe riser and spillway pipe with a concrete riser and spillway pipe, the pond embankment will be reconstructed to meet current Maryland Dam Safety standards and more. This project is not expected to impact the traffic flow in the area and weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by late March 2023.
Dobbin Road Shared-Use Pathway Project to Begin
A Howard County construction project to install a shared-use pathway along northbound Dobbin Road between Oakland Mills Road and Snowden River Parkway in Columbia, is expected to begin on or about Monday, September 5th.

CSX to Begin Maintenance Work at Woodstock Road Railroad Crossing
CSX Transportation will begin maintenance on the railroad crossing at Woodstock Road at the Howard/Baltimore County line in Woodstock, starting around 9:00 a.m. on Monday, August 29th. Variable message boards and signs will be posted to alert the public of the project and corresponding road closure. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 2nd.
